Nuns stop next summer

Franciscan nuns have been operating in the Faroes since 1931. But next summer, the remaining nuns will be leaving their positions.
“This is a really sad situation, but we will find work elsewhere,” says Maria Forrestal, who has been a nun in the Faroes for almost 33 years.
Her colleague, Sister Laetitia Chevallier, writes as follows in a press release:
“It is with great sadness and grief that we announce the decision made by the catholic bishop in Copenhagen and the Faroese catholic diocese that due to a lack of resources and energy, the nun convent will close down on 1 June next year.
”Long distances within our work area and visa complications are forcing us to make difficult decisions. We no longer have the energy required to continue our activities beyond 1 June 2024.”.
