Vágar tunnel closed due to accident
A car travelling through the Vágatunnilin tunnel from Vágar towards Streymoy ran into a car in front at around 2.30 pm today.
Police have closed the tunnel temporarily while ambulances and fire fighters are carrying out rescue work.
“Initial reports indicte no serious personal injuries, but since such situations always involve certain risks, we are implementing the necessary safety measures,” says a police spokesperson.
UPDATE 4.15PM: The tunnel has reopened. One person has been taken to hospital for precautionary checks.
